Central LA From My POV
Central LA is the part of the map that I think gets overlooked by people who are too focused on the coasts. Neighborhoods like Koreatown, Mid-Wilshire, Hancock Park, and Larchmont Village sit right at the center of the city—genuinely central—and they offer a quality of life and a density of culture that I find genuinely exciting. Koreatown alone has some of the best food per square mile of anywhere in the country. And Hancock Park, with its historic estates and tree-lined streets, is one of the most beautiful residential neighborhoods in all of Los Angeles.
What I Love About Central LA
The access is unmatched. From Central LA, you can get to the Westside, DTLA, the Valley, or the Eastside without committing to a major freeway grind. The Metro Purple and Red lines run through here, which is a real asset for clients who want to minimize driving. The architecture in Hancock Park is extraordinary—Spanish Colonials, Tudors, Georgians on grand lots—and it’s some of the most coveted real estate in the city for good reason. And Larchmont Village is one of the most pleasant walkable streets in LA: a farmers market, independent restaurants, a real neighborhood feel.
Life in Central LA
Life here rewards people who want to be connected to the pulse of the city without living downtown. The density is higher than the Westside, the noise floor is louder, but the trade-offs are location and value—you get a lot of city for your dollar here. Koreatown in particular has become a hub for young professionals and investors because of the combination of walkability, transit access, and relatively competitive price points for the LA market. For clients who prioritize location above all else, Central LA is often where I start the conversation.

After 20 years of living and selling homes in LA, I’ve built a pretty solid rotation of go-to spots in West LA. These are the places I actually send clients to—and where you’ll probably run into me when I’m not showing houses.
Stagger Coffee
Inventive matcha, creative coffee drinks, and a welcoming Koreatown space with solid Wi-Fi. Becomes a work-from-anywhere hub for the young professional crowd that’s made this neighborhood its own.
Alchemist Coffee Project
One of Koreatown’s most consistently excellent coffee spots. The drinks are well-crafted, the space is comfortable, and it hits that balance of quality and approachability that’s hard to get right.
Bricks & Scones
A Larchmont Village institution with two floors, big wooden tables, comfy couches, and a patio out front. I’ve recommended this to every client buying in the Hancock Park area. It’s where the neighborhood gathers.
Larchmont Village Wine, Spirits & Cheese
A gourmet shop with a sandwich counter that puts together baguettes and focaccia layered with proper cheese and quality deli meats. One of the best quick lunch stops on all of Larchmont.
Kang Nam
A Koreatown Korean BBQ spot with a covered outdoor patio and an exceptional spread of banchan. I take clients here when I want to show them what makes living in this part of the city genuinely special.
Mario’s Peruvian
A Larchmont neighborhood staple that’s been quietly excellent for years. The lomo saltado is the reason people come back. Casual, warm, and exactly the kind of local restaurant that makes a neighborhood feel like home.
